Camp Deer Run Family,
In an effort to protect and ensure the health and safety of our campers, staff, families, and the greater community, we have made the decision to cancel all remaining sessions for the summer of 2020.
We have taken extensive preventative measures since before the summer began, with input from local health officials, which have met and exceeded government guidelines concerning COVID-19. Our summer staff worked extraordinarily hard to execute these plans, and for that effort, we are immensely grateful. Unfortunately, there has still been exposure to the virus at Camp Deer Run.
Earlier this week we reported that four staff members had begun showing symptoms and tested positive for COVID-19. Since that time, three additional Camp Deer Run staff members have tested positive. While no campers experienced any detectable symptoms while at Camp, one camper tested positive a few days after returning home from Camp, and at least two other campers have reported notable symptoms after returning home as well. All staff members who experienced any symptoms of the virus while on the premises were immediately quarantined and left Camp shortly thereafter. Any staff who were known to have been exposed to infected staff members were also quarantined preventatively.
After consulting with our advising physicians and local health officials, we believe that the virus has spread too much among the staff to safely continue with our program this summer. All staff members have now left Camp and have been advised to quarantine at home.
We are heartbroken to end the summer early, but our most urgent concern is for the wellbeing of our campers, their families, our staff, and our community. We thank you for your continued support of Camp Deer Run and for your patience and understanding.
We love you all, and we are deeply grateful for the time we had this summer, however short. We will be praying for our Deer Run Family continually as this pandemic continues, and we humbly ask that you would pray for Camp Deer Run as well. We look forward to better days ahead and an incredible summer in 2021.
Stay safe, and may God bless you all.
In Him,
Ty Ford
